2019 Short Story Competition

To link in with the 2019 Lafrowda Festival theme "Off the Page", the Friends of St Just Library are running a short story writing competition.

There will be four categories of entry:

There will be awards in each category. All winning entries will be displayed in the library, and awards presented at a special event during the Lafrowda Festival fortnight (details tbc).

We would like all entrants to write an original story, based in West Cornwall, of no more than 200 words. This can be in the form of prose or a narrative poem, can be illustrated and can be as creative as you like within the local setting.

The team of judges (local authors, teachers, councillors, library staff, volunteers and trustees) will be looking at originality, development of ideas, choice of language and enjoyment.

Terms and conditions

All entries must be original, unpublished work. By entering, you are agreeing to your story possibly being put on public display and/or published in a booklet of selected entries.

How to enter:

All stories must be labelled with the author's name, category of entry and school name (in the case of entries sent in via a school), or postal and email addresses.

Entries on paper should be delivered to St Just Library. Electronic entries should be sent as an email attachment to: story@friendsofstjustlibrary.org

All entries must be received by Friday 24th May. We look forward to reading lots of interesting stories!
